Update on Dublin Show

Just a quick update on the Pop-up exhibition in Dublin, it opens on the 5th of December from 6 - 8pm and then it's open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (9th, 10th and 11th). I'll try and get a photo of the drawing I have in it and post it up here.

Work in Dublin Group Show

There's a Pop up show opening this Friday (December 5th) at Emmett House in Dublin. The show is running for a week. I'll be deciding Monday for definite what I'm putting into it, I'll either be putting in one of the images below or both or maybe working on something new altogether for it, I'll post it up if something new goes in.

Work in Birr Group Show

I have a piece of work in a group show in Birr, County Offaly. The show is titled Common Ground 2014 'Organic'. This is the second consecutive year that I have had a painting in this group exhibition. The show is taking place in Birr Theatre and Arts Centre and is open from the 5th of December. Artist Talk, 23rd of October, Galway University Hospital

As part of the exhibition on show at Galway University Hospital this month I'll be giving an artist talk on Thursday the 23rd of October at 1:30pm.

Galway Solo Show - 'Excursion'

Excursion is opening this Tuesday the 1st of October in Galway University Arts Trust in Galway City. There's no official launch but it's open to the public from the 1st to the 30th of October. I will also be giving a talk for staff and patients of the hospital on the 23rd of October.

Installation shots of Birr Arts Festival

I meant to post these earlier but never got around to it. This space was in the vaults below one of the buildings in Birr. It was a really interesting space aside from it not being a white cube space it threw up plenty of challenges and things to watch out for. I was delighted to be part of the festival. There was a really nice atmosphere in the underground space because there were 8 of us holding solo exhibitions along the tunnel walls and there were 16 other artists showing a group show as part of a local art class. In the Building above the vaults the Birr Annual Open was held.

As you can see from the pictures the walls weren't smooth and the rough stone was something that tended to knock about some of the pieces especially the really small ones so it took a little tweeking to make sure they were flat on the wall.

Lighting was another issue that artists showing in the vaults were asked to consider. I decided to use 3 inspection lamps like the ones mechanics us. Visually I just liked them and I felt the look of them went well with the work.

Solo Show in October

I have my second solo exhibition of the year in October. It's taking place in Galway University Hospital, Galway. I won't be having an official opening but from the 2nd of October it's open to the public for the month and I have proposed to give a talk too. It's the work from Iceland again with some new works added.

When dates are confirmed I will post them up here.

New Solo Exhibition at Birr Vintage Week and Arts Festival

I have a solo exhibition opening on Friday the 1st of August in Birr, County Offaly. The festival committee have received vacant buildings and spaces around the town as venues. The location of my show is in The Maltings Vaults. It's a really interesting space. I've almost always shown in a white cube space but the vaulted walls are going to be a nice alternative so I'm looking forward to seeing my paintings in it. I'm setting up tomorrow so I'll try and get a few pictures and post them up on the blog.

I'm going with Excursion as the title again because it's going to be the work that I started in Iceland along with the others that I did when I got home to Ireland and then I have some new ones to go with them.

Work in Art Takes Times Square

One of my paintings was on show on Thursday, July 24th on a billboard in Times Square New York. It was part of Art Takes Times Square. Motivations was the piece that was chosen, it's just the second one up on the corner.

New Installation

I spent most of the weekend doing drawings for new paintings and a preliminary sketch for a possible installation. It's the first time I've worked in the field of 3D work since The Honeycomb Project back in 2011.

That was a collaboration between 5 of us, this time I'm working on a solo piece that developed from my paint practice. Because my practice is primarily painting there will be references and processes to and of the discipline.

I'll be hoping to work on this new installation along with 2 bodies of paintings over the next 3 months.

New Solo Exhibition in August

I have a new solo show in August as part of the 46th Birr Vintage Week and Arts Festival in County Offaly. It runs for 1 week from the 1st - 8th of August. I think the spaces around the town are open from 1:30 pm to 6 pm and we invigilate our own exhibitions.

We get to see our spaces at some point in June so I'll post photos on the blog here around then.

I'll be exhibiting the work that I had in Excursion along with additions to the series. I'll be posting updates on the blog.

Work From the Dublin Show

Between Here and There is coming down tomorrow. There was a great crowd at the opening especially when we didn't do a lot of advertising, the gallery was packed though. Anyhow here's one of the two paintings I had in the show. The photo isn't great, it's off my phone but I'll get better documentation in the next couple of weeks and be posting it up.

Exhibition in Dublin

We have our First Year MFA exhibition opening this Thursday (22nd of May) in Pallas Projects in the Coombe, Dublin. There's 5 of us based in Painting, 6 in Sculpture and 2 in Printmaking.

Exhibitions

Next month we'll be having a group exhibition at Pallas Project Space in Dublin. There'll be 13 of us, 5 Painters, 6 Sculptors, and 2 Printmakers. At the minute dates are a bit up in the air, as are titles and almost everything else. The only thing that's certain is that in 4 weeks time the work will be up.

Then in 2016 I have a joint show opening in Custom House Studios in Westport, Mayo. The opening night is September 8th.

I was contacted 2 weeks ago by Galway University Hospital and they're currently putting a schedule together so they'll get back to me.

Aside from that I've been working away on the MFA, the first year is just done. The show in Pallas will mark the end of the college year.

And finally...

I'm in the middle of setting up a website so over the summer I'm going to get everything sorted out with that domain name and all that craic.

The Craic at the Minute

The craic at the minute is I'm painting away, the project has taken off in a completely different direction and I'm back working with oils, the new work is running under the theme of Superstition and Mythology, it's in the early stages yet though.

I'm still working on the smaller paintings that are under the same theme as the work that I brought back from Iceland too.
