I got a letter during the week informing me that my application for the Laois Arts Act Grant was was successful and I have been issued some much needed funding for the second year in a row, and for a second year it will be going towards a residency in Iceland.
I am extremely grateful to Laois County Council for this funding.
I'm a visual artist based in Ireland and I use this blog just to post about my practice, upcoming exhibitions, residencies, workshops etc.

Just a Quick Update
I'm still working away in the studio in Mountrath. At the minute I'm undecided on whether I'll be moving out in June or August. But I'm getting the work that I brought back from Iceland last September finished up and the paintings are progressing nicely.
I have a new solo show lined up for The Arthouse Gallery in Stradbally, Co. Laois. It's currently penciled in for June so I am feeling the pressure, I'm aiming to be fairly ready around the middle of May but the way things go it'll probably be the night before the opening. I'm looking at 10 - 12 paintings and I have 4 finished and 2 more almost done.
I will have these new works up here on the blog at some stage down the line.
After that then it's back to Iceland for 1 month in July but after I get back it gets a little hazy, there's no concrete plans, I'm looking at either Dublin or Cork.
I'm intending to maybe upload some video blogs via Vimeo. I hope to do one in May or June just to round up the past 2 years, and hopefully make a video blog every 6 months after that or something, I need to get an external mic before I start making them so the sound will be decent enough.
That's where things stand at the moment, I'll probably post something up here soon about the solo show once it's sorted out with solid dates.

2 Paintings in Wexford
I meant to update the blog with this earlier but I've had a busy few weeks. Anyway I have 2 paintings showing in the Green Acres Gallery in Wexford. It's their Annual Open Group show. This year is my third time to show with them. I missed last years deadline and so ended up not even getting in application so I applied in plenty of time this year. I also showed work in the Annual Open in 2010 and 2011.
These are the 2 paintings that I have in it.
Both of these were completed in 2012.

Fotoblur Link
I created an account with Fotoblur just after college but I never uploaded any work but I want to start working with photography a bit more so I've started uploading some images to my account. It's still in progress but I'll be uploading more images from Iceland and work from some projects that I'll be working on here at home.

Work in Los Angeles
About 2 weeks ago I applied to the Los Angeles Center for Digital Art to take part in their annual open exhibition, Snap to Grid. The exhibition is opening tomorrow night.
It was just a landscape photo that I had taken last month and it's the first photography exhibition that I've had work in.

Back to Iceland in 2013
I applied this week for a place on a residency in Iceland, with the proposed time of July 2013 and I'm delighted to say that my application was successful. This time I'm going to Olafsfjordur, it's about 3 hours North-East of Skagastrond, to work on the Listhus Artist Residency. I applied for a 1 month duration and I'm already looking forward to going back to Iceland, if I'm honest I can't wait, I haven't stopped thinking about the place since I got home to Ireland.
I've proposed to work on the residency as a research period and try to get some momentum behind a few of the planned projects. I find it difficult to pull away from the studio work from time to time and the planning can take a slight hit because of this. Alongside the planning and research side of the residency I'm hoping to work on a video and hopefully have it complete in time for a screening in Iceland before I leave.

Entered Competition
Last night I uploaded some images of my work to enter in a competition that is part of See.Me . There's the opportunity to be part of an exhibition in SCOPE, New York, a chance to be part of a book publication and to take part in an event in Times Square.
Here's a link to the site: http://patbyrne.see.me/
I'm not sure if you need to have an account to vote but if you don't need one and if you like my work just hit the button (I think it's the small love heart button that appears when you click on an image) and it will help and will be greatly appreciated. I'm relying on word of mouth to get the votes so I thought my Blog would be a good place to start.
